Juan of the Dead is an inventive take on the zombie genre, mixing in a great sense of post-Fidel Cuban revolutionary malaise - so managing to subvert both the zombie genre and authoritarian socialist politics at the once. Plenty of great gags, but also plenty of the "why are they doing that" plot holes that zombie movies succumb to. It's much more fascinating than thrilling - possibly with the most daylight that I've ever seen in this genre. Patria o muerta - Juan becomes Cuba itself.
