First things first: The lead actors have very little chemistry so the romance falls flat. Also, the writing is a bit too clever, in that you have no idea what's happening the first time through. Despite those annoyances, Jupiter Ascending is a unique, twisty, and beautifully realized movie. The action sequences are thrilling and -- as has become a trademark for The Wachowskis -- include pioneering visuals and effects. The plot is brilliant, with multiple factions all vying for intertwined goals. Concordantly, the entire universe unveiled as the story progresses is truly spectacular and fantastical, yet wholly believable. The rapid pacing and sequences shown before any exposition make it difficult to follow the first time you watch, though. You really do need to watch at least twice to "get it". But that is just another facet of what makes this movie so wonderful. Alas, few viewers were willing to give it a second chance, so it enjoyed limited appeal. I almost wish they'd made this movie more accessible, even if it would have somewhat spoiled the story, because Jupiter Ascending deserved a whole raft of sequels to further explore the marvelous world. Alas, it must stand alone because they wouldn't compromise, which is both a triumph and tragedy.

It's tough to find a decent science fiction movie that doesn't feel like something we've all seen before, I promise this is like no other sci-fi you've seen. Like a lot of people have said there are almost too many dynamics to this movie that they just couldn't simply develop fully in a two hour period, hence why I'll probably have to watch it again to get a good grasp on it. I enjoyed this one, the tech was interesting and creative and the CG was solid. Visually it was quite stunning. Considering how unique the story line of this movie is it more than makes up for any lack of acting talent, though most action movies these days are unimaginative remakes or sequels so maybe my standards are lower. It gets 4 stars and I'd watch a sequel if they made it, there's a lot of substance here with endless possibilities for follow-on plots.

The plot was slow to develop, and full of holes. The storyline was very confusing, and it was just too sudden when Jupiter admits her feelings. The effects could've been better, especially the wings at the end; it wasn't the correct size for him. It wasn't believable. The ending made the audience feel even more confused, because it leaves too much hanging. It was disappointing, because there were good actors and actresses, but their talents went to waste. The only part I liked was the pad/band-aid part. ;/
