Books and mini-series like this shows how our societies are affected by corrupt officials and psychos in power. All throughout you'll feel so outraged and feel so keenly the unfairness but such is life and thank god for those few who care enough to stand against them. If you like this, you will also like Pillars of the Earth which was written before this and has its own mini-series. I just love Ken Follett!!! These mini-series pales in comparison to his books but they're still very good. Authors like Ken Follett are rare nowadays. He writes books that are more than 800 pages (on average it's half that if not less), he can introduce a lot of characters without overtaxing the plot lines and they're all heroes/heroines, he takes you through lifetimes and generations of these characters, all in a wonderful historical background. And I don't know how he does it but i never felt the story drags. These mini-series based on his books are the same.
