I feel I'm obligated to leave a review simply because the original was one of my favorites from JCVD. Having said that this attempt at a remake was an effort to say the least. Being aware of all the distribution and production hiccups this movie has gone through I can at least overlook a few things. However, having said that I go straight to the point. The story is super dull, and the flair that they try to capture from the original is just non-existent. The acting for the most part is what you'd expect from a VOD movie. The redeeming qualities in this movie (JCVD, Bautista, Gina Carano) are severely under utilized and quite frankly are made a mockery of. Bautista is fed the most superfluous and ridiculous lines. Gina Carano, a fighter, doesn't play a fighting role. JCVD, the charismatic and omnipotent martial arts action star is relegated to the most boring development. Relying on nostalgia alone in the training montages, JCVD is severely underused. It's also evident there is this "devil may care" attitude with this film with half of JCVD's lines being re-dubbed in post by a horrible voice over who sounds nothing like him. Rent.

This is as bad as the lower budget sequels to original movie. Bad pacing acting. Nothing memorable about it. I can watch then original multiple times or whenever it comes on TV I'll watch it. This reboot,I wouldn't bother watching a second time or on TV. The star of the movie is forgettable also. Nothing about his look that sets him apart or makes me want to see him in anything again. Van damme is in good shape but didn't really do much to help the film. Felt like he was just there to cash a check.

Dont rent this crap. As a wrestler Batista is a entertainer who has lines, but he could say anything in the ring. Wrestling is fake, but Batista doing martial arts is fake too and he was horrible at "acting" in this movie. Not all wrestlers are good actors. The story line sucked and is typical. GSP and GCVD are interesting each in there own way. GSP is a mixed martial artist and GCVD is a kickboxer in real life.
