Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to the epic fantasy action adventure “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” Starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, the film is an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne. When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.

C+ movie filled with A level highlights. Hunnam does a decent job potraying a legendary figure, but lacks some of Arthur's kind demenor and charisma. Film also suffers from poor pacing, really a 3 hour move fit into 2 hours. Extra time would've gone a long way in character and story development. Still if you're looking to pass the time and love a new spin on an old tale. King Arthur could be a worthwhile watch.

I very much enjoyed this take on the Arthurian legend. Very refreshing and harkens back in many ways to the older Arthurian legends that proliferate the public consciousness. The fight sequences were particularly inspired and the movie overall did anyway with the bloat of useless exposition. A shame it didn't do well in theaters but a very compelling movie nonetheless.
