Miranda (Evan Rachel Wood The Wrestler) is 16 and has already had to live with her share of disappointments. Abandoned by her mother, she's dropped out of school and has been supporting herself working for Maccas while her dad Charlie (Michael Douglas Ghosts of Girlfriends Past) resides in a mental institution. Now he's out and Miranda's life is about to become completely disrupted...and, well, a whole lot crazy. Charlie has become obsessed with the idea that the treasure of an old Spanish explorer is buried in their suburban Californian neighbourhood, under the local supermarket in fact. All he needs is Miranda to get a job there so they can do a little bit of night time excavation. At first appalled, then sceptical, Miranda gets caught up in her father's enthusiasm and the opportunity to give him one last shot at living his dreams.... and maybe a chance for dad and daughter to reconnect.
