The magical kingdom of Lucis is home to the sacred Crystal, and the menacing empire of Niflheim is determined to steal it. King Regis of Lucis (Sean Bean) commands an elite force of soldiers called the Kingsglaive. Wielding their king’s magic, Nyx (Aaron Paul) and his fellow soldiers fight to protect Lucis. As the overwhelming military might of the empire bears down, King Regis is faced with an impossible ultimatum – to marry his son, Prince Noctis to Princess Lunafreya of Tenebrae (Lena Headey), captive of Niflheim, and surrender his lands to the empire’s rule. Although the king concedes, it becomes clear that the empire will stop at nothing to achieve their devious goals, with only the Kingsglaive standing between them and world domination.

Kingsglaive is an extraordinary film, showcasing the very best in current computer generated imagery, storytelling and cinematic experiences. If you're a Final Fantasy fan, and excited for the next game in the series, this film is an absolute must. If you enjoy incredible CGI, amazing fight scenes and a fairly well developed, believable story then you will very much enjoy this film. The film goes a long way in showing the two sides of the conflict, showing the true might of both empires. As long as this film directly links to the game (which I think everyone expects) it has set up a truly compelling story which I am now far more excited to experience thanks to this film. I feel the weight of responsibility on Noctis' shoulders and cannot wait to jump headfirst into the game out later this year.

Like everyone else here, I have no idea what basis the critics are judging this film on. They must be viewing the film as an isolated piece, separate from the Final Fantasy XV cross-media experience (let's be honest, when was the last time you can remember a film critic having to deal with this kind of cross-media approach to a franchise?). This film is meant for fans, awaiting the release of a game that's been over 10 years in development. It provides context and a backdrop for what will come to follow in November. Yes there are some mild parts that bring the film down as a whole, a couple of lines that come across as slightly weak or badly written, but as a whole, the experience was well worth the money and time taken to watch. As someone who has been following the game since it's initial teaser trailer alongside FFXIII all those years ago, this film delivered exactly what I expected it to, and gave a little more. Masterpiece of CGI storytelling? No, and it doesn't try to be. Well crafted experience tailored and designed to appeal to fans, and to satiate their hunger for more information and context behind what is shaping up to be a fantastic game? Yes.

I am truly amazed that I felt beyond rewarded by Square Enix. I am overwhelmed with Joy... Watching this film to grasp an understanding of the story of what occurred when all hell broke loose and seeing noctis (in teasers and trailers/demo) with major responsibility, enhances the audience to buckle up, and take a tour to the realm of knowledge and insight of the backdrop story.. which then ends and leads onto you completing that story with the Game.. Beautifully made, elegant and seriously worth it.
