Do we judge films on artistic merit or absolute watchability? If it's the latter, then this film is deserving of high praise. It's one of those you while browsing your streaming channels and realize how much fun it really was. Then you watch it and remember that you enjoy now just as much as the last time and ask, why don't I own this? Or better yet, "Why don't these service providers allow my rental fee to apply to the purchase when I'm surprised by how much I liked it." Someday. There seems to be a severe lack of critical enthusiasm for the "mid-life crisis adventure" genre . This film along with Mr. and Mrs. Smith and The Secret of Walter Mitty all suffered from poor reviews. That's not the only thing they have in common. The other is they are all fun to watch and to do so repeatedly. Cruise has two films in this category, Edge of Tomorrow (Live Die Repeat) and this film. This is the more fun of the two if not the more compelling one.
