Ted Kramer (Hoffman) is told by his wife, Joanna (Streep) that she is leaving him, to find herself--leaving Ted to care for their six-year-old son. Ted gets to really know his son as few fathers do and for the first time in his life he feels like a fulfilled parent. The best pictures of 1979 are Alien, Apocalypse Now, Manhattan, Monty Python's Life of Brian but Kramer v Kramer beats them all. All equally great films but this truly deserves Best Picture of 1979.
