1859. The last days of the Joseon Dynasty, where the wages of greed bring poverty and death. First, remember to enable subtitles in the player, if you have to like I did. At times this movie feels like martial arts Lord of the Rings. Epic in scale, the cinematography can be exquisite. It's a feast for the eyes throughout. The acting ranges from meh to very good for actors like the badass monk and the main villain. The action scenes are awesome. No physics-defying stunts here (for the most part), it's gritty, realistic stuff. I loved the music, it touches on LOTR moodiness in parts, but relies mostly on a spaghetti-western-ish vibe for a lot of it. It works, just don't come in expecting bamboo flutes, it's a revenge flick for a lot of it, which is awesome. The story was sort of meh at times, some jumps in logic are required. But overall, best martial arts/Japanese movie i've seen in a while.

I thought it was great from begining to end. I love the Terrentino-esque old west crossover. (Think Pulp Fiction meets Magnificent Seven). I wasn't sure renting this because I'm not into subtitles normally, but it's so good you forget you're even having to read. Seriously, it's that good. If you like westerns and you like Terrentino, then you will love this movie. Sorry if I misspelled Terrentino.

Best movie I watched all year. Ha! Being that I am not a movie watching fanatic! But every now and then I'll watch a great! Movie.This movie was Indeed a morally correct movie.That high light's man's (greed,lust's, murderous) side. And at the same time show's man's (good!,righteous,equality justice side). A movie that everyone should watch. And it was a true story history event. 👌👏👍
