About this movie

Hong Kong film auteur Stephen Chiau (aka Stephen Chow) returns with his newest action-comedy after the groundbreaking, and box office record breaking film Shaolin Soccer. Set in Canton, China in the 1940s, the story revolves around a hapless wannabe gangster, Sing, who aspires to become a member of the notorious "Axe Gang." The Axe Gang, meanwhile, want to reign supreme by occupying the most coveted territory, which is a sacred street protected by an unlikely cast of characters, many of whom are highly skilled kung fu masters disguised as ordinary people. After several encounters with thugs and a fearsome adversary known as The Beast, Sing overcomes his inadequacy and realizes he is the greatest kung fu master of them all, destined to protect the sacred street. Silly, brilliant over-the-top action. This has burned-in English subtitles, for those wondering. Infinitely better to any dubbed version, unless you're somehow averse to reading. Non-burned-in captions would've been infinitely better though--these ones are yellow and blurry. Bleugh.

Without doubt one of the best martial arts film I have ever seen. I've watched this movie at least 5 times, and it's still as good as when I first saw it.

Fun to watch. Period. There are english subtitles. Did I say, it's fun to watch? Because it's fun to watch. This movie deserves cult status. Oh, and let me tell you something. It's... yeah, you guessed it. It's freaking fun to watch.
