I'm normally a fan of musicals, but this just didn't grab me at all. It was slow for the most part (with an odd, rushed ending), the songs were average and the dancing/dream sequences were dull. The jazz was the best part. They were clearly aiming for "old Hollywood" but missed it. I think Ryan and Emma did their best with what they were working with. Two actors trying to fill a big, empty movie.

An amazing beautiful story of two hearts reaching for the stars, their struggles, life and love connection are so beautifully portrayed. Ryan Gosling seemingly effortless portrayal of a struggling Jazz Musician is a master piece. Emma Stone's contribution to this epic musical delight is spectacular, wonderfully deserving of all that has come her way, she is the best of the best. Damien Chazelle what an amazing movie, thank you for opening your heart.

A fun movie, which peaks at the very cheeky start. About halfway, the suprise dinner scene ruins it. Apparently an uncreative writer takes over, and fills the remainder of the movie of dull cliche irrationalities. What started as a comedy ends up as a mindless uninspired drama. It's worth watching once if you're watching a movie a week.
