A corrupt banker, Favraux, receives a frightening note to pay back all the people he has cheated. "Judex" mysteriously signs the note. Favraux decides not to follow along and does not pay. As a direct consequence he appears to have died after a toast at his own masked ball. However, he is just drugged and locked away by Judex. The banker's life is spared, after his daughter Jacqueline rejects the inheritance. But her former governess now kidnaps poor Jacqueline in order to get her Dad's money.
