Based very loosely on a true story, this Australian film focuses on Lilian Singer (Ruth Cracknell), a quirky woman who has been released from a mental institution after decades. Accustomed to confinement, Lilian marvels at her newfound freedom and tries to adjust to life in regular society. The movie also looks back at young Lilian (Toni Collette), whose eccentric ways incurred the wrath of her controlling father, John (Barry Otto), prompting him to commit her to the asylum.
