New Yorker Harvey Shine (Dustin Hoffman) puts his dead-end job as a jingle writer in jeopardy to attend his daughter's wedding in London. Lonely Londoner Kate (Emma Thompson) is a 40-something woman whose life is limited to work and the occasional humiliating blind date. The two guarded strangers meet unexpectedly and discover a stirring connection.
