If you're looking for a good movie do yourself a favor and skip the bad reviews on this one and just watch it. While it may not offer 2 hours of nonstop action, once the plot twist comes to light it makes up for some of the slower parts. It was a great story line, coupled with some amazing actors. The bad guy did a good enough job that I literally wanted to slap him less than 30 minutes into it. This has made it to my "favorites" list.

This film with all the reviews I seen felt it needed some perspective. This movie is passed on as a fantasy almost sword and sandals flick that brings nothing new and sucks as fantasy. Can you be qualified to truly critique a movie if you do not know what genre it belongs to? This is a Chuchingura epic that means the themes by definition are familiar and even played out is like watching Hamlet and not expecting it to be a tragedy! Second I see this as such a historical fiction with a fantasy bent yes more Game of Thrones then say Braveheart in that like the HBO series the setting is more archetype then period inspired. As such I found the design of the film to be kind of universal and the blending of east and west interesting. For what this is for depth in theme and acting I find this to be good this is not an American film but it is a western take on the 47 Roninand a philosophical cinema experience of what it means universally to be a knight or warrior and what it means to have honor. Worthy epic, important theme, and worthwhile substantive entertainment even if the plot is nothing new that is the point timeless story.

One cool beginning scene boring hour and a half then all of a sudden the coolest 20 minutes of any movie out there. I literally wanted to choke the bad guy all the way through the movie. Stupid story though. Clive did well but it was like torture to watch anything but the brief action.
