Peter O'Toole is phenomenal in this masterpiece of cinema. Beautiful cinematography, wonderful score, and a drama that will leave you feeling triumphant and defeated. One mans struggle to unite a region, totally foreign to him, to turn the tide of war. This film is a must watch for cinephiles, film students and lovers of photography. It shows its age in a few places but will stand up to the attention of demanding modern viewers.

Part 1 is brilliant all around. Directing, acting, writing.. Part 2 falls short -- Lean loses focus and inspiration --, but you gotta see it through, and it has its moments...Peter O'Toole is one of the greatest of all time. Alec Guinness, terrific as always. 4 and 1/2 stars.
Way to long with tons of unneeded scenes. Very boring and I lost interest in this movie several times. Had I not needed to watch it as homework for intro to film I would never have watched this movie.
