Legend, from director Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Gladiator), is a visually stunning fantasy-adventure in which pure good and evil battle to the death amidst spectacular surroundings. Set in a timeless mythical forest inhabited by fairies, goblins, unicorns and mortals, this fantastic story stars Tom Cruise as a mystical forest dweller, chosen by fate, to undertake a heroic quest. He must save the beautiful Princess Lily (Mia Sara) and defeat the demonic Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry), or the world will be plunged into a never-ending ice age.

This move is terrible. I really like some of the cast, and so I REALLY wanted this to be a great movie, but it just isn't. I tend to find out the hard way why these movies are unpopular. Tom Cruise (you know, Rain Man, Vanilla Sky, Top Gun, Mission Impossible) plays a kid who could've (and maybe should've) been played by an awkward ninth grader. Mia Sara's character is not much different. Watching this movie was like watching what would happen if a middle school film class student won a contest and got to make his own movie. The feel of this movie is something to the effect of, "Hey you guys like fantasy stuff, right? Well check this out, we've got an attractive young couple in love, unicorns, light = good, dark = bad, goblins, an elf, some short and hairy Irish guys, a forest, Tim Curry (best acting of the whole movie by the way) dressed as Satan, I mean, this movie's got it all! And there's kind of also a story, too! We went all out for you with this fantasy movie!" It makes me think that this movie had a lazy writer, one or more impatient investors who bullied this writer into cutting corners, or both. Rent it if you're curious or studying, but don't buy it.

There are lots of high points for this film and the fact it came out the way it did from that time period is without a doubt one of the few times such great talent has come together. Maybe not for everyone, but if you can appreciate a beautiful story-line and dramatic theater, then this one will really feed your appetite with something delightful and unforgettable.

of a Wonderfully Beautiful Story (hence the more than 0-★s)!! Acting, except Mia Sara, is Poor Middle-school level. Screen-write is incoherent drunk in style. There are No Special Effects. One would think Pinewood would hide in shame to have its name on it. They have done many spectacular productions, but sunk completely on this one. Peace be it that I only rented it.
