Based on Lanford Wilson's semi-autobiographical play, this drama focuses on Alan (Kevin Bacon), a young man who leaves his home in Nebraska and moves to California to reunite with his long-absent father, Douglas (Tom Atkins). Acclimating to his new environment and unfamiliar family, including stepbrother Jerry (Casey Affleck), Alan struggles to find his place. Before long, his father's abusive streak is revealed, and disturbing secrets begin to surface.
