À propos de ce film

Academy Award® winner* Clint Eastwood directs the untold story of Japanese soldiers defending their homeland against invading American forces during World War II. With little defense beyond sheer will and the terrain of Iwo Jima itself, the tactics of General Tadamichi Kuribayashi (Ken Watanabe of The Last Samurai) and his men transform what might have been swift defeat into nearly 40 days of heroic combat. Their sacrifices, struggles, courage and compassion live on in the taut, gripping film Rolling Stone calls "unique and unforgettable" and which won -- among 4 Academy Award nominations* including Best Picture -- the Oscar for Best Sound Editing (2006). MPAA Rating: R Rated "R" by the MPAA for graphic war violence. © 2006 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and Dream Works LLC. All Rights Reserved.

An Important, poignant and beautiful work of art. It transcends politics, and the finger pointing of who is right and who is wrong. Rather, this is about humanity, dignity, honor and valor. This is about family, friends and sacred duty. The brutal truth: If not for the ravages of war, your bitter foe could most likely be your treasured friend. After all, we are all more alike than we ever dare imagined. This moving, haunting film stayed with me for a long time, and forever changed my perception on the war in the Pacific. Clint Eastwood is a bona fide American institution: he just keeps getting better.

I think Letters from Iwo Jima is a great movie. Since I retired I am really into history. I like movies that show history close to the way it really happened. I also enjoy seeing what happened on he other side. If you like seeing the other side try watching Dresden. It is about a German family that lived in Dresden when the allies fire bombed it. The special effects are amazing. They even showed the fire tornadoes that were created by the fires. It was a German made movie so you will have to read subtitles, but you can order it on the internet.

Incredibly powerful movie. Displays the simple but critical truth that the enemy, too, is human. You cannot know the true horror of war without seeing both perspectives. Phenomenal job by Clint Eastwood with this and Flags of Our Fathers.
