Om den här filmen

When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn’t real when the lights went out…and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged. But this time, as Rebecca gets closer to unlocking the truth, there is no denying that all their lives are in danger…once the lights go out.

I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this movie. It draws on a lot of horror tropes without feeling tropey itself, which is a hard line to walk. The script, acting, and direction are all on-point, and the practical effects used to create the "monster" are expertly handled. Doesn't hurt that there's some pretty high quality eye-candy coming from both the male and female leads. :P

I've been a fan of David's YouTube channel, ponysmasher for a while where he uploaded the original short, Lights Out. It was more dark, grittier, and just creepier. This movie was really good but I know considering how terrifying the original short was, it could have been scarier. If it had an R rating, I think it could have had more of the feel of the original short. The concept is amazing but it works better in a short film format because with less back story, the monster is creepier.

A horror movie is supposed to set out some ground rules that it follows right from the beginning so you have a guideline to work with. This movie makes rules then disregards then for cheap scares. It's like how Dexter would disregard all character development just to say bet you didn't see that coming. No we didn't because it makes no sense to what you've already established. Also while more normal in this genre these characters make some extremely dubious choices. Like beyond stupid. Good gimmick monster
