Brand, an illiterate farmer, starts to take reading lessons with a young teacher hired for him by his wife, Keet. He is mystified, however, when he finds Keet trying to push him into an affair with the attractive teacher and telling him to pretend they are brother and sister, not a married couple. Keet has definite plans of her own, though, which involve serious consequences for all concerned.
