About this movie

Writer-director Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) has crafted a Little Women that draws on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott, and unfolds as the author's alter ego, Jo March, reflects back and forth on her fictional life. In Gerwig's take, the beloved story of the March sisters – four young women each determined to live life on her own terms -- is both timeless and timely. Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth March, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Timothée Chalamet as their neighbor Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.

Watched this with my sisters and mom. Words cannot describe how much this beautifully acted, directed and crafted film meant to us. Not only is the timeline switching incredibly effective in demonstrating the juxtaposition between childhood and adulthood but it is clear and very obvious which period of time we’re in. The cast was, needless to say, amazing and Saorise Ronan and Florence Pugh are some of my favourite actors ever. Greta Gerwig is an absolute genius of a director who absolutely deserved at least a nomination for best director. I especially believed this once I learned more about her process and creative choices. I love this movie with all my heart.

I never before thought that another could meet or even surpass the superb 1994 film version, but Greta Gerwig has done it, and with such effective twists to the storytelling and a fantastic ending that pays homage to Alcott. If you love girls and women being queens, you'll love every second of this beautifully crafted movie. 😍👌🏻

Pretty solid film. As a guy it's a little hard to relate to women in the 1800's but they manage to pull together some impressive performances and a solid script. My only gripe is the actresses do not look like they've aged 7 years. They act sillier as teenagers but sometimes it took a moment to realize what period of time we were in. Definitely worth the rental.
