I've been looking forward to this movie for two years, since before it started filming. Yet it left me disappointed. It leaves you feeling unfulfilled and it seems as though Gosling failed to realise that although he knew the plot of the movie, that audiences wouldn't. With the vast majority of elements that were cut, the story is completely lost, leaving a film that is simply weird for the sake of weird.

Walking into this film, I gave it the benefit of the doubt (Recent reviews). And....I stopped 42 minutes in. Decided to look up Robin Williams Videos instead. There's a level when art needs to meet with entertainment. A point when it becomes a grind. I'd maybe recommend this film to a 10-16 year old, experimenting with counter culture.... outside the bracket - not many redeeming qualities. You can see the Nicolas Winding Refn influence. It's pretty rampant, especially in the lighting. I will crunch through the rest of the movie tomorrow, just because I financially invested. But really, fighting to get through a movie? Even the old-classic, where patience were necessary, have a lot more integral content. It seems any-time there's an original thought, they hesitate, and quickly fall into film cliches or unpolished ideas. Too much hype, not enough time spent with the writing, pre-production. I've seen short films that have said more than the first 42 minutes. I mean, everyone sets out to make a good film, but this film, in particular, sometimes lines things up in a way that doesn't agree with me.
