This film is one of my all time favorites. I just watched it again through google play, and it still makes me feel all the emotions I felt the first time I watched this film. I actually laughed out loud at some of the literal lost in translation scenes. This is a masterpiece from the cinematography, music score, superb acting, to the whole theme, tone, and mood of the film. Sofia Coppola should be forever proud of this piece of art that will forever reverberate through the multitude of mega-million budget movies that just can't touch the simple beauty and elegance this film presents to the minds of the audience where ever they will be. I just hope that everyone will watch this movie and understand the deep and purely human connection of innocent unadulterated love these two characters experience together in a world where we are constantly trapped in our own minds thinking we will never be able to emotionally transcend these barriers we live in every single moment of our lives. "Lost in Translation" gives us hope that there is a chance to be in love with someone not for sex, money, or anything else other than just being a human.

I do not understand why everyone is calling this film a comedy. It is not. Like all good art, it reveals aspects of the entirety of the human experience, not just one portion. So yes, you may laugh, or cry, or feel a hard to describe emotion which resides in your chest, and pulls you downward toward this place of mild melancholy, like looking at the rain, or seeing other people have fun without you. The thing I enjoy about this film is that it focuses on existence. The day to day nagging of self esteem and purpose which drives you to greatness, ruin, or stagnation. As with the lives of the characters it is trying to portray, Lost in Translation has no meaning. But it is obsessed with the search for it.

Classic older settled and comfotable in his own skin man; young girl ignored by her young career focused husband. Perfectly portrayed/acted by Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. Both living in a different culture and drawn together by their American "sameness" and their individual individual emotional needs . One of the best movies ever where each of us writes the ending we envision, based on where we are in our lives.
