In 1968, Michael McCarthy travels from Newfoundland to Ireland, to explore the Burren, a rich geological wonder. There he meets Cathleen, a beautiful woman who has devoted herself to God and the church from a young age. Michael falls hopelessly in love, and Cathleen finds herself torn between her faith and her newly discovered desires. As Michael pursues his beloved, his persistence stirs anger and violence in her small town. Ultimately, Cathleen must decide which love she is to follow ...
