The advertisement of this rare animated movie has caught my attention. And the concept is utterly intriguing; Two siblings named Luke and Lucy (brother and sister) found a small Texas ranger stuck in a whisky bottle. Little did they know that the Texas ranger has been shruken by an evil robotic bandit named Jim Parasite who plans to dominate Texas as the king. And what surprises me is that Jim Parasite is voiced by a famous country songwriter named Billy Ray Cyrus (the father of Miley Cyrus). So I got interested to watch this rare non Pixar or Dreamworks movie and believe it or not, this is a disappointing misfire. The whole enterprise seems stale and predictable, but on the bright side it does have it's moments due to a few plot twists and the story itself finally does not go for the same unoriginal formula like other wild west stories involving sheriffs and bandits. Some of the script writing is nicely written in some elements, but not all. Most of the comedy is just cheesy filler, but there are some moments of comedy that did get some chuckles out of me like a few moments of lightening quick slapstick thanks to the wacky sense of humor that the animation consists sometimes. Speaking of the animation, the animation stays true to the illustrations of the original source material, but instead of 2D, they just used 3D or modern computer animation, nothing special or extraordinary. It's just plain and does not strongly grab my attention. That's because what really takes me out of the movie is that the lips are are not in sync with the dialogue. But one character design that stands out is the main antagonist himself, Jim Parasite; his buff physic and seven-foot height towers above all others as he menacingly looms on screen. He also has some perfect colors too, like dark brown and dark grey with two red beady glowing eyes. That makes Jim Parasite provide a scary presence. Things do get entertaining during high noon battle with Jim Parasite that is decently constructed. The voice acting from the cast may not be good overall, but it's above-average with some amusing voice performances by Ken Clement who voices Wilbur and of course Billy Ray Cyrus (as for the fact that Billy's voice is edited into an evil demonic robotic voice for Jim Parasite). Anyways, lets get to the rest. Every single character is one dimensional with no depth, no layers, nothing fleshed out, and there is some unnecessary script writing for what these characters have to do. Even though things do get interesting with Jim Parasite on screen, but he is just like the other characters with absolutely nothing to him. I don't have an opinion on the music score by Ian Marien; it's basically an orchestral score with some guitars and some whistling that are suited for the wild west. It does not have the flavor or punch to grab my ears attention which is pretty sad. Now, for age appropriate content, this is suitable for ages eleven and up due to action, language, and suggestive content. In conclusion: I am heavily disappointed in this film and I wanted to like it. In spite of it's redeemable qualities, the experience of watching this lackluster is empty. Recommendation: Worth a rental for someone else, but not for me.

This was very good. I enjoyed it as much as my kids. It has something for everyone - action, comedy, adventures and a good quality production.
