A tender and sweeping story about what roots us, Minari follows a Korean-American family that moves to a tiny Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. The family home changes completely with the arrival of their sly, foul-mouthed, but incredibly loving grandmother. Amidst the instability and challenges of this new life in the rugged Ozarks, Minari shows the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home.

To some the word 'lovely' might be as descriptively useless as 'nice', but it fits so well as a catch-all summation of Minari. As we follow a young, Korean family's turmoil after the father (Steven Yeun) uproots them from the city to Arkansas to start anew as farmers, writer/director Lee Isaac Chung gives us an almost magical journey as they all discover more about themselves through this new life and the son learns more about his heritage through his wacky grandma, played with Oscar-winning relish by the wonderful Yuh-Jung Youn. A well rounded film that tugs on the heart strings. A wonderful film.
