Somewhere in the primal wilderness near the Shadow Mountains in the year 1983, Red Miller (Nicolas Cage) has fallen deeply for the deceptively charming Mandy Bloom (Andrea Riseborough). However, the life he has made for himself comes crashing down suddenly and horrifyingly, when a vile band of ravaging cultists and supernatural creatures desecrate his idyllic home with vicious fury. A broken man, Red now lives for one thing only—to hunt down these maniacal villains and exact swift vengeance.

This (the story) dragged on a bit. A lot if red lighting throughout the movie, then there was the blood and gore. Not an entire waste as there were bits that made me want to watch, but had a b-grade feel in parts...just not my type of movie overall.

Loved the archaic approach to this movie with surreal and haunting visuals and an 80s type horror vibe for it's soundtrack. Nic Cage goes back to giving a performance like he was well known for in his earlier films. Gory scenes with an assortment of 'out there' type of characters. Loved it! Only problem was I thought it dragged on a bit to long in the beginning.

Nic Cage is superb in this unofficial companion to Willy's Wonderland. It's arthouse, it's horror, it has actors that will make you say "that's that guy!!" A drug induced ride that you have to see to the end, then do it again to see what you missed the first time.
