Directed by Garth Davis (Lion and Top of the Lake) and set in the Holy Land in the first century C.E., a young woman (Rooney Mara) leaves her small fishing village and traditional family behind to join a radical new social movement. At its head is a charismatic leader, Jesus of Nazareth (Joaquin Phoenix), who promises that the world is changing. I guess u maybe could understand more of the story if the story is being watch it is just a short story of the movie for the audience to interests on such understandings may vary few questions and curiousness of your own mind may wake it up. Thank you ---> to Philip De Semlyen

It is not true to the Bible. Jesus didn't baptized any female for start. A very misleading movie if anyone wish to understand the Bible and Jesus.

The quietest Jesus ever, I think! He barely speaks in this. Of course it's more about Mary Magdalene, but it's funny. You should watch this if you like the two lead actors, otherwise it's nothing all that special.
