The magic returns in Disney's reimagined classic as Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) helps the Banks family remember the joy of what it's like to be a child. Together with her friend Jack the lamplighter (Lin-Manuel Miranda), fun is brought back to the streets of London in celebration that everything is possible…even the impossible!

Initial smiles could not be contained as the familiar and now even clearer 17 Cherry Tree Lane filled the screen after the opening credits quickly faded. The score quickly became relentless and squeezed your blood pressure forward from scene to scene; never letting you catch your breath and absorb the moments that we wanted to feel special. These new songs played homage to the Shermans’ original work but slightly missed the mark in the fun category. Songs seem to be written about the fun where as the spirit of the songs should have been the actual fun. These new forgettable songs remind us how practically perfectly talented the Sherman Brothers are. The same goes for the two leads; Blunt and Miranda. Both check the boxes of satisfying their roles but never fully rising to the high expectations of walking into the theater. Their singing was perfectly pleasant but not the spoon-full of sugar we craved. The animated sequence in the porcelain bowl was one of the most beautiful and stylized sequences in the film but not free from the same script and music issues. Disney has seemed to have mixed-bag success with live-action movies this year (with movies like A Wrinkle in Time and their version of The Nutcracker largely under-performing at the box office and others like Black Panther stunning audiences worldwide), but I believe that Disney has found a hit with Mary Poppins Returns. While the references to the 1960s Mary Poppins film are prevalent throughout, this movie provides enough new content to stand alone without hindering the reputation of the classic movie. Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda are both “practically perfect”, and Marc Shaiman’s score allows for subtle connections to the riveting songs of the first film. All in all, Mary Poppins Returns is a movie that people of all ages will enjoy, and I am positive that it will find its way onto my DVD shelves in the near future. All my life I have been down a lonely horrible horrifying road at the same time it made me who I am today I have dealt with a traggic abuse life consisting of physical emotional and mental abuse. I will say that the people that have been bezide me this whole time is family not my blood family except my dads mom who raised me and tought me everything I know along with my father whom I haven't no thanks for 13 years, also people from my race and ethnicity who seem to just understand and are there.
