Mary Queen of Scots explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart (Academy Award® nominee Saoirse Ronan). Queen of France at 16, widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry and instead returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. By birth, she also has a rival claim to the throne of Elizabeth I (Academy Award® nominee Margot Robbie), who rules as the Queen of England. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth's sovereignty. Rivals in power and in love, the two Queens make very different choices about marriage and children. Betrayal, rebellion and conspiracies within each court imperil both Queens–driving them apart, as each woman experiences the bitter cost of power.

Little to do with the story and more to do with current political climate. it's a shame we have to be fed political garbage this way. We are all different and right within our own perspective, that's fine. I just don't think historical/any movies should be twisted for any agenda. If you want to see this story, the tv series Reign depicts it much more accurately and is fantastically done.

This film falls broadly into a genre now rampant on television that I call "Harlequin Romance History." Anachronistic on purpose, loosely and arbitrarily based on historical events with lots of political correctness and heaving bosoms.. The Tudors, Reign, and now this. This material is covered more faithfully and accurately in the Vanessa Redgrave 1971 "Mary, Queen of Scots." Watch that instead.

I love period dramas and have seen many Mary queen of Scots films, but this one is just too much. The fact that it tries to politically correct it by putting African American actors in parts where you know didnt exist at the time really made me question the idea of how real they really wanted to be instead of just casting roles for your agenda!
