Indu (Shabana Azmi) and DK (Naseeruddin Shah) live a peaceful, prosperous life with their two affectionate daughters. One day, DK receives a word that he has an illegitimate son born from a brief fling he had with a woman, who is now dead. The nine-year-old boy, Rahul (Jugal Hansraj) needs a home. Despite Indu's objections, who is devastated to learn of her husband's infidelity, DK brings Rahul home. While Rahul tries to find a place in the new home, Indu is caught in a dilemma. She can neither be hostile toward the innocent naïve child nor can she bear to look at the tangible reminder of her husband's infidelity.
