After accidentally sending nuclear fusion triggers to Malawi, soldiers Floyd McMasters and Stu Cutshaw go AWOL. Through a tragic accident they come into possession of the prestigious Medal of Victory and are spirited to Floyd's home town where everyone, including his jilted ex-lover and two endorsement-seeking mayoral candidates, think he's a hero when, in fact, he's a fraud.
