About this movie

Gil is a Californian hack who churns out screenplays but dreams of writing a novel. He and his fiancée Inez have come to Paris to sigh dreamily as they wander its boulevards and the banks of the Seine. The trouble is that Inez's Tea Party-supporting parents are with them. Another problem is that Inez prefers to spend her time in the company of her college crush Paul, a pompous visiting academic who's in town to deliver a lecture at the Sorbonne. I usually like Owen Wilson movies, but this one was bad. It felt like one of those after school specials where the kids get sent back in time to some period and just happen to meet every famous person from that time period in the space of an hour. The dialogue is outrageously bad and the acting from everyone is over the top, unbelievable and unnatural.

I'll admit its not so much as a romance movie as I thought. Its more philosophy. I got conned into watching this by a bunch of girls, but being well read and knowing some history, I think I enjoyed it more than they did.

I love the way Allen tells the story, it's attractive and easy to slip into. The music is also fantastic, it really fits the plot. The rhythm is smooth. The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. I would recommend it to anybody because it is a wonderful film.
