Über diesen Film

A tender and sweeping story about what roots us, Minari follows a Korean-American family that moves to an Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. The family home changes completely with the arrival of their sly, foul-mouthed, but incredibly loving grandmother. Amidst the instability and challenges of this new life in the rugged Ozarks, Minari shows the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home.

Actors delivered on what feels like an authentic journey with nuance and attention to details. This is a quality production overall centered around story and the relationship between characters. For fear of spoiling anything from the plot, I only knock it one star because I wanted there to be a bit more lead-up to the end result, perhaps a few more seeds planted to justify the closing minutes. Anyways, Glenn Lives!

The camera shots and angles were good, and the plot was overall great. However, there was no conclusion. It's a five paragraph essay, but they forgot to write the fifth paragraph. There's a Christian theme, but nothing happens with that. The farm fails with the crops burnt (not to mention that they pulled a bunch of crops into a corner of the BURNING rather than bring them outside the barn. There's a hint of hope for the farm, but there's not a big conclusion of success, nor is there a conclusion with the grandma, perhaps a bit of redemption, but does she get better? What about the marriage of the parents? It's left hanging? What about the minari? It had a very little significance to the story. Or David's heart? It's getting better, but it was as emphasized. This movie tried to do a lot but ended up doing all of them poorly. There should have been one central theme. I enjoyed watching the film but was dissatisfied because of the lack of conclusion. It was a film with great potential that failed miserably. I give it two stars because of the importance of family and the well designed start of a plot, but it cannot gain any more because it doesn't end well.

The movie has great potential and delivers a fantastic "coming to America" story but ending is wretched! So much gloom and doom with so sign of hope at the conclusion. The family has no water in their home; the grandma has a stroke, the parents are separating; the mom is leaving to live in another State; the kids are insure where they will live; the barn burns to the ground; all the family crops are lost - and that is where it all ends. It shows the father and son forging for food in the river. That's it! Great movie, but it really needs more at the ending. You are invested in the lives of these characters, but there is no conclusion, no summary. It's like reading a book with the last chapter missing. Very disappointing!
