As it’s own movie I loved it (I had seen it before I read the books) but with the books in mind I still love it, there are some elements I wish they used from the books but overall it’s still good. But with the whole Emma and Olive stuff, it wasn’t as much of a big deal as people say it is In my opinion and I love book fire Emma and air Emma equally for different reasons. I don’t normally enjoy more horror like movies (Ik this is far from a horror but I am a very jumpy person) but actually really enjoyed the more spooky parts of it. As it’s own movie it’s able too stand alone but with the books in mind I wish they had used more plots from it

Burton's magic is there, but not the results. It is often long, overstuffed, yet imaginative, and apart from Eva Green's presence, it usually fails to draw you in. As fantasy goes, Peculiar Children could have been -- and is by moments -- a refreshing departure from the numerous out of this world adventures the business of cinema has unleashed on viewers these last years. Sometimes, though, even in fantasy, too much is actually too much.

On it's own I see it as mediocre, with the book in mind it's just plain terrible. I regretted spending the time on it. The acting was alright and most of the effects were good but the story and character's abilities were changed and not for the better. The book carries on to a sequel but the movie feels like they rushed the story to end it here.
