Just Visiting
Someone has decided it was time for the Mission Impossible franchise to start shedding its cerebral essence and go instead for the physical show à la Bond, with the usual car (and bike) chases, big explosions and even an international villain. One surprise: Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson, who often times steals the show from Cruise. I wish, though, that Mission Impossible would stick to what it was and leave Bond alone.

Mission: Forgettable... I actually saw this film in the theater and for the life of me I can't recall the plot. I do remember thinking it had a "Been there and done that" feel, so much so that it came through in all the main characters performances. The writing, acting, and directing were all disappointing. BTW, I actually am a fan of the Mission Impossible movies... The good ones!

Tom Cruise is the weakest aspect of this film. His character has gotten less likeable as the series has gone on and has relied on the charm and humor of the other characters to hold up the film. I also find it strange that the series continues to introduce strong, interesting female characters to the cast and then drops them for each sequel. It would seem the IMF is nothing but a boy's club that only occasionally and temporarily lets women in for Tom Cruise to stare at awkwardly. The action sequences continue to feel samey, rehashing stunts for new environments in each movie. Honestly, I'm not sure how this series continues to get sequels.
