This is a sad and haunting story about Chiron, a boy (and then man) looking for love in an environment that is devoid of love. He finds it in unexpected places, only to lose it in very heart wrenching ways. I love how the movie is presented in 3 acts, following Chiron through 3 very distinct phases of his life. If you're looking for an action-packed movie or a gay love story - this isn't it. If you're looking for a well-written, character-driven drama about a young man trying to cope with his feelings (not just sexuality) in a harsh, unloving environment, then buy/rent and get drawn in.

Its honestly okay. That's it. I'm a huge fan of movies and films, and this is one of 6 of the 2017 best picture nominees I saw, and was by far the worse. While the acting was great (Ali definitely deserves the Oscar) the plot is average, nothing you've never seen before. Critics talk about the progression of the characters in the movie, yet Chiron shows no real progression other than age. If you want to watch the movie that should have won best picture watch Manchester by the Sea (or Arrival, or La La Land, or Hell or High Water, or Hacksaw Ridge.) This one isn't worth it folks. ALSO PLEASE NOTE EVERYONE I AM NOT HOMOPHOBIC AND THE VIEWS THAT PEOPLE HAVE AGAINST HOMOSEXUALS DOES NOT APPLY TO MY OPINIONS AND THEREFORE DID NOT AFFECT MY REVIEW OR OF WHAT I THOUGHT ABOUT THE MOVIE

It makes no sense at all to me. This just seems to be a movie to cater to homosexuals, drugs and hardknock life... its amazing how this trifecta came to pass. Everyone has problems Hollywood, not just black people. I guarantee if this was about a white person, Mexican, Japanese....etc it would not have gotten best picture. Complete pile of crap.
