El joven peleador de MMA, Cole Young, acostumbrado a los golpes, no conoce su legado ni por qué el emperador del Outworld, Shang Tsung, envió a su mejor guerrero, Sub-Zero, un criomante de otro mundo, a cazarlo. Al temer por la seguridad de su familia, Cole busca a Sonya Blade por instrucciones de Jax, comandante de las fuerzas especiales que tiene la misma extraña marca del dragón con la que nació Cole. Pronto se encuentra en el templo de Raiden, un dios antiguo y guardián del Earthrealm, quien ofrece refugio a aquellos con la marca. Ahí, Cole entrena con guerreros como Liu Kang, Kung Lao y el mercenario Kano, mientras se prepara para pelear por el universo junto a los grandes campeones de la Tierra contra los enemigos de Outworld. Pero, ¿tendrá Cole el espíritu necesario para desbloquear su arcana, el inmenso poder dentro de su alma, a tiempo para salvar a su familia y detener el Outworld de una vez por todas?

Calificaciones y opiniones

Understand that the Mortal Kombat universe of games spans 11 now. The lore is expansive and vast in relation to all the characters story arcs. This movie works within it magnificently, Life and death fights with all the over-the-top action combined. Some may say it does not follow the lore of the games or why a character was added, however most of this argument can be down to the first 3 games based around the tournament event and the characters in them. If you go past this and expand to the full 11 games set it fits superbly. New characters, moves and story changes for the film version all work well. Mortal Kombat with all its gore and randomness in 110 minutes. Bring on the sequel, perhaps with a tournament in that one now that the narrative explanations such as character powers have been setup.
