MOUNTAIN MEN follows two estranged brothers, Topher (Tyler Labine of “Deadbeat") and Cooper (Chace Crawford of “Gossip Girl”), as they journey to a remote family cabin in the mountains to evict a squatter. Buried resentment and bruised egos soon derail the plan and when the smoke clears they’ve destroyed their car and burned down the cabin, leaving them stranded in the cold Rocky Mountain winter. With their very survival at stake, they must learn to work together as brothers to get back to civilization.

‘Tough love’ doesn’t even begin to cover this feel-good comedy. Toph and Cooper have to survive “the great outdoors,” but also their sibling resentment towards each other. One brother is the prodigal son, while the other seems lost in his small-town life, but both have their personal issues to explore. But now, they must explore them together. Add sibling rivalry and sharp dialogue, and Director Cameron Labine hits the mark. Watching these characters fight for their lives together, while remaining sane, is absolutely unforgettable.

I hadn’t heard of this film before, but the boyfriend and I stumbled upon it last night looking for movies on Google Play. Well, needless to say, we haven’t laughed that hard at a movie in a very long time!! This film looks like a crazy one just by the cover art, and it definitely is. BUT, it’s crazy in the best way. The things that happen to them (aka SETTING A TRUCK ON FIRE) while trying to find this squatter in their cabin are so laugh-out-loud hilarious, a lot like The Hangover but definitely wilder. I’d like to know what else Tyler Labine (Toph) has been in because he was fantastic! I was surprised to see the gorgeous Chace Crawford doing something other than Gossip Girl, but it definitely works for him. Anyways, we really liked the film, so glad it’s on Google Play!

Mountain Men had a great mix of drama and comedy. The relatable family dynamic and the story of two brothers coming together to survive the traitorous wilderness was very refreshing. Their story of survival had me on the edge of my seat but was pleasantly accompanied by comedic moments, which helped keep the film light even through intense scenes. Hands down one of the film's most notable qualities would be the breathtaking scenery. Cameron Labine captured the Canadian scenery remarkably. I felt as though I was walking with the charters through the forest and could relate to their struggles of survival. I am glad I was able to experience this film early enough to recommend it.
