Perhaps some of those offering unflattering reviews were expecting a prequel to Guy Ritchie's action-packed forays into the Sherlock Holmes repertoire. This is rather a look through Holmes's magnifying glass at the half-life of the human mind. His mind. More thought-provoking than exciting, beautifully shot, engaging, every character believable. What some call slow, I call relaxed. After all, why the rush?

I like Ian McKellen, i like Sherlock Holmes, but this is one boring movie... I couldn't sit more than 30 mins in the movie.. This is a story of a demented elderly, trying to remember his past.. The acting of Ian McKellen is good as always though...

Completely different take on Holmes compared to recent franchises. Beautifully filmed, wonderfully acted by the cast and an interesting if somewhat sad story. Sir Ian McKellen is brilliant as an older version of Sherlock as he sorts out his legacy.
