Co-stars Walter Pigeon ("How Green Was My Valley"), Dame May Whitty ("Gaslight"), and Henry Travers ("It's a Wonderful Life") all received Oscar-nominations. Romantic war drama, won an Oscar for Best Picture back in 1942. I realy wanted to like it but... I understand its historical significance but I found it heavily outdated, unrealistic and disingenuous. If it were a simple rom-com I would have loved it. If it were a film depicting the struggles during WW2 I would have liked it as well. But when I see an entire village being bombarded and Mrs Miniver's mascara stays on fleek...Come on, really?
