Rajinikanth plays the role of a tough villager in this film. Jaishankar is a landlord of the village who is always in the process of usurping lands from villagers. His sister, Sumalatha and Rajni love mutually. Jaishankar approaches Rajini for a wedding proposal. Rajni initially considers it, but rejects later for the sake of his brothers. Rathi enters Rajni's family seeking refuge. She is a victim to Jaishankar's atrocities. Love blossoms between Rajini and Rathi. Surulirajan, to avenge Rajini creates a rift between Rajini and Jaishankar. False charges are framed on Rajni. How Rajinikanth gets out of this mess and whom he marries is the rest of the movie.
