About this movie

First you're hot, then you're not...and then you're Alex Fletcher (HUGH GRANT). So when the sizzlingest tween-queen on the charts asks the has-been '80s pop sensation to write her a song, he grabs for another chance at stardom. Problem: Alex can say it with music, but he sure can't say it with words. Enter Sophie Fisher (DREW BARRYMORE), his beguiling if quirky plant lady, who has a green thumb for lyrics. Together, they go after songwriting success -- and discover that if you want to write the perfect love song, it helps to fall in love.

With Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore at the keyboard and Marc Lawrence (Two Weeks Notice) directing, Music and Lyrics is a witty, wacky romantic comedy that faces the music...and laughs!

This is so much more than a romantic comedy; great script, creative dialogue and many life lessons covered. I admit, I've watched it several times and learn or catch something new each time (and I'm a smart cookie). After watching it, check out the "Gag Reel" and Official Trailer on You Tube - AFTER watching the movie. BTW, male friends tell me this is one romantic comedy they enjoy!

This is a fun, romantic comedy. It was just what I was looking for, when I rented it. It is a light, humorous movie with plenty of 1980's nostalgia thrown in. Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore did a fantastic job. I love Kristen Thompson, too, in this film. If you are looking for a lovely escape from reality with a romantic story and laughter, then this is worth watching.

Music and Lyrics is pretty much your by-the-numbers Romcom, but it's the performances by the actors in this one that give it that extra magic. The budding relationship between Barrymore and Grant feels believable, the story makes sense from their character's standpoints, and the original songs for this film are enjoyable to listen to (I liked the catchy POP! song the most). FYI, it's a mostly clean film, but there is some sexual dancing/sounds in parts of the film.
