Young Ken McLaughlin has problems. The boy keeps getting into trouble and is not doing very well in school, much to his father's chagrin. His parents come up with a plan to teach the boy some responsibility. They give him a young colt to take care of. Soon the colt becomes sick and Ken has to try to nurse it back to health and win the approval of his father. This family film, directed by Harold D. Schuster and starring Roddy McDowall, spawned a sequel released in 1945, entitled Thunderhead - Son of Flicka.
