Ever since he was a boy, Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) has been obsessed with finding the legendary Knights Templar Treasure, the greatest fortune known to man. As Gates tries to find and decipher ancient riddles that will lead him to it, he's dogged by a ruthless enemy (Sean Bean) who wants the riches for himself. Now in a race against time, Gates must steal one of America's most sacred and guarded documents - the Declaration of Independence - or let it, and a key clue to the mystery, fall into dangerous hands.

An incredible film, and one with deep personal meaning for me. As kids, we were enraptured by Ben Gate’s knowledge of history, his commitment to his country, and the wisdom of the founding fathers. His co-conspirators each represent a different, but important, aspect of America - Abigail’s passion for history, Riley’s drive to improve the future, and his father’s appreciation for quiet, middle class life. As an adult, I draw these same lessons from the film every time I watch it, and discover new notes and nuggets of genius from the screenwriters every time, only deepening my respect for this movie. This film is the perfect synopsis of what it means to be an American - to live in freedom, and to fight for other’s right to do the same.
