Sure, this movie bombed at the box office. But most cult classics do: The Princess Bride, Heathers, Fight Club, etc. Critics have to understand who this movie's audience was. It's a Disney film. It's for kids. And though I'm already well into my teens, I loved Newsies. It's a feel-good movie with catchy songs, fun dance numbers, and bad New York accents. These things may not be what makes the movie great, but it makes it memorable.

I am a fan of musicals in general, and have been for many, many years. I was excited when this movie came out, and it's only grown even more on me since. The music in this movie sticks in my head and I enjoy it. The storyline, while not 100% historically accurate (but then, what Disney movies ever are?) is well done with likable characters. And it's FUN! Great dance numbers, energetic songs, and some poignant moments to humanize the characters and give variety to the movie. I highly recommend it.

Although I've heard it was pretty much a fail to begin with, I feel it's really picked up steam with a small-ish group of fans. Good casting and catchy tunes make this an enjoyable and very re-watchable movie. If you like musicals and/or historic-type movies, you'll love this turn-of-the-century song and dance!
