Professor Philip Ainley (Ray Milland) has an idyllic family life -- until his wife and son die in a shocking domestic accident. Philip won't open up about their deaths, but they scar him deeply and he begins drinking heavily to soothe his emotional wounds. For a time, he succeeds in concealing his sorrow and addiction. Eventually, though, he wrecks his car while driving drunk. The accident worries Philip's best friends, but they may not have time to get through to him before it's too late.
