Following the closure of a gypsum mine in the rural Nevada town she calls home, Fern (Frances McDormand) packs her van and sets off on the road. With care and insight, Zhao crafted the screenplay, based on Jessica Bruder's book "Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century."
